About Barbara Deters

As a resume writer and career consultant, I have been helping clients reach their personal career goals for more than a decade. I have a background in writing for a variety of job levels and industries but specialize in working with mid-level professionals and executives.


My own experiences with corporate mergers, downsizes, layoffs, career changes and relocations make me uniquely qualified to help you.


After earning a degree in journalism from California State University, Fresno, I began a long, successful career writing for a variety of print publications, including a number of California newspapers, the Arizona Republic, Arizona Business magazine and USA Today. The upheavals in the print publication world led to my transition from print journalism to a career in corporate communications.


I spent more than a dozen years in corporate communications at Fortune 500 companies working with people at all levels, from front line to executives, and in all functions within an organization, including human resources, benefits, compensation, recruiting, IT and finance. This time in corporate America bolstered my expertise in honing strategies and tactics for identifying key messages for a broad range of clients and audiences.


I left Corporate American and launched my career coaching business because I wanted to make a difference in people's lives. I delight in helping others achieve career success. 


My wealth of experience and insights into how the corporate world works, coupled with practical know-how, gives me a unique ability to understand how best to support you in your job search. 


As an award-winning journalist and communicator, I hold accreditation as a resume writer (ACRW) and as a business communicator (ABC).
